Marj has managed to piece together the December edition of the Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse just in time for the holidays. As always, it looks like there’s some god reading going on over there, including some posts from folks that I’ve been getting to know over at the Child Abuse Survivor Network, which has been a great experience in just the couple of weeks it’s existed! Please, come on over and join the community!
That’s the title of a movie that’s currently in the works by Kathy Barbini, who previously put out an independent documentary titled The Healing Years. If you click over to the site you can see a 12 minute trailer. Kathy sent me an email a few days ago, she’s trying to get the word out about this film, and possibly even find some financial support to get it released.
Take a look at the trailer and spread the word!
Also, if you’ve seen The Healing Years, I’d love to hear what you thought of it, drop a mini-review in the comments!
For those of you who use Twitter, did you know that the Amber Alert System is available on Twitter as well. Just go follow @Amber_Alert and you can get updated on the latest US Amber Alerts as they are issued.
Also, feel free to follow me @mikemac29 and get the latest tweets, including new blog posts.
Not a review, since I haven’t read it, and given the number of things I need to get caught up on after being away for a few days, I’m not going to be reading it anytime soon, but just a pointer to a book called A Damaged Boy, by Nigel King.
It looks pretty interesting, if anyone has read it, let us know what you thought!
The hiatus for the Carnival Against Child Abuse is over, and on the first day of Fall, Marj has posted the latest version. I’m so glad to see it back again, and look forward to digging into these posts, and more in the months to come. Go take a look and welcome it back, thanks Marj!
Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day:
That’s why on World Suicide Prevention Day we have to speak up, to tell our stories and reach out to those who are isolated. If you’ve been sort of thinking about it, read this first. If you feel an imminent urge to kill yourself, call 911 and go to an emergency room. I found that suicide is an impulsive thing, and you can endure by dealing with those impulses until things change. It always changes. Want help? Call 1-800-SUICIDE or another of many resources. There is help and hope.

On Sunday, August 31, we were forced to evacuate our Louisiana offices and move operations to a hotel on the panhandle of Florida. Some of you may remember our evacuation from Hurricane Katrina three years ago at which time we were in Florida for over two weeks. We probably will be able to return sooner this time as the damage is not as severe. However, our office in Louisiana has lost power, telephone and high speed Internet access indefinitely which, of course, we need to operate Code Amber.
As a result of our displacement, we are experiencing extraordinary Code Amber operating expenses.
If you are able, please help Code Amber through this time of crisis by making a small donation. Any amount you are able to contribute will help us continue to operate while we are displaced.
Thank you,
Bryant Harper

Welcome to the new Survivors News and Reviews blog!
By adding a new blog to the Child Abuse Survivor website, I hope to be able to provide a place for the community at large to share insight, ideas, and suggestions for helpful tools. I won’t be the only person publishing here, any survivor is welcome to post their book reviews, website reviews, important news items, etc. All you have to do is ask to become a regular and I’ll gladly create an account for you.
I’ll also be dropping in occasionally with short pointers to interesting things. Things that I think would be helpful to survivors, but don’t have the time to write up a longer blog post about, or my impressions of books and other resources for survivors.
Of course, as the site owner, I’m going to require any post to be reviewed by me before it goes live to the site. As with all things I do here, my first concern is to provide a safe discussion environment for survivors to come and feel less alone. Anything that does not further that purpose, simply won’t get published.
I hope that this proves to be an informative and interesting place for survivors as we go forward from here. I’m excited about the possibilites, but none of that will come to fruition without your involvement. If you want to share your own reviews and interesting found items, let me know and we’ll get you set-up, either using your real name or a pseudonym. Please read the About page above for more information. Or, you can also contribute simply by coming back, and being involved in the comments. Either way, I look forward to what you have to say!
