The United States of Tara

Monday, January 19th, 2009

The United States of Tara is a new show on Showtime about a women with DID. Most of what I’ve read about the show has been pretty positive in terms of the producers wanting to have a realistic portrayal of a woman with alters, including this Psych Central article.

Alas, I don’t have Showtime so I can’t really tell you whether the show is any good, so if any of you get a chance to see it, I’d love to hear your opinion!

Beat Depression During the Winter

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

This is a pretty good list of things to do during these cold Winter months when parts of your depression fighting plan includes things like outdoor activities, and other things that you can’t do during the colder months.

http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2009/01/04/12-winter-depression-busters/

I’ve found a few of these to be good tools for myself, fighting off the lethargy that can sometimes take over when I’m not paying atention to myself during the Winter, specifically joining a gym, and forcing myself to get outside, and do things with friends.

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I got an email from W.E. Krill, Jr. MSPC about this site that he has put together with resources for healers and caregivers of those suffering from PTSD. I took a quick look at the site tonight and it looks like there is a lot of information there, with more to come, so I’d definitely bookmark it and check out all the resources he has!

Triumph over Tragedy

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I got an email recommending this site to me, Triumph over Tragedy. Of course, I set up this blog just for that purpose to pass along reviews and other resources for survivors, so naturally I want to pass this along as well. Michael Skinner is a survivor who has now turned his focus to motivating and encouraging survivors of trauma in their healing through telling his story, and through his music.

Check it out, and if you’ve heard Michael speak, share your experience!

Lamplighters

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Margie McKinnon, the founder of Lamplighters, and author of Repair your Life sent me an email today about getting the site added to the resource section of this site. As it turns out, I’m thinking seriously about “retiring” that page, and using this blog as the ultimate resource and recommended reading section instead, so rather than adding the link over there, I’m writing about it here.

Lamplighters is a group that seeks to help heal “adult survivors of child sexual abuse, incest,
domestic violence, rape and sexual assault”. They have a number of local groups around the world. If you’ve been involved with a group, or have read Margie’s book, I’d love for you to tell us more about it. Or, if you decide you want to get more information, please come back and let us know how it goes for you!

We’re glad that some of our faves are still active, sad to see a few gone, and pleased to discover great new writers too. We’re pleased to present you Psych Central’s Top Ten Bipolar Blogs of 2008.

Safe Surfing for Teens

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Ran across this aticle today, and thought I’d pass it along. Teens spend a lot of time online, communicating and socializing, and they should be aware of the dangers and as well informed as we can make them.

Psych Central Turns 13

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Congrats to John Grohol and the rest of the folks over at Psych Central on 13 years of providing good mental health information online. I’ve been a fan of that site for many years, and now is an opportune time to thank them for their work! There is a whole lot of great stuff over there, I’d definitely check it out if you’ve never found your way there.
