I’m a firm believer that we don’t need any kind of special permission to talk about mental health and the stories of people dealing with mental health issues any day that we want to, but I also wanted to bring a couple of special days that are being set aside in Canada and the UK for the purpose.
For our friends in Canada, Jan. 26 is Bell’s Let’s Talk Day.
On Bell Let’s Talk Day, Bell will donate more towards mental health initiatives in Canada by contributing 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet or TikTok video using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view and use of our Facebook frame or Snapchat lens.
A week later, on Feb. 3, it’s Time to Talk Day in the UK
Time to Talk Day takes place on Thursday 3 February, and we need your help to get the nation talking about mental health.
Talking and listening about mental health has the power to change lives. Each conversation we have contributes to reducing mental health stigma, helping to create supportive communities where we can talk openly about mental health and feel empowered to seek help when we need it.
There are lots of ways to get involved, from sharing on social media using #TimeToTalk and having conversations with your friends and family, to organising activity and events in your community. Here are some suggestions to help you plan how you’ll support Time to Talk Day.
However you do it, have a conversation about mental health.
There is still so much stigma around mental health, and there is also not nearly enough understanding of the importance of this as an issue that impacts so many. We need to continue to have conversations so that the next person feeling alone knows that they aren’t, and also because we need to remind all of society about the need for resources to help all of these people around them.
So, hey let’s talk about it.
