You may feel that you have no control over your life \u00a0and \u201cgive up.\u201d The result is that you have learned to remain passive in the face of unpleasant, harmful or damaging circumstances, even when you actually have the power to change things. You just don\u2019t realize that you do.<\/p>\n<p>Learned helplessness is \u00a0further defined as the \u201cgiving up reaction\u201d or \u201cquitting response\u201d that follows from the belief that whatever you do doesn\u2019t matter or doesn\u2019t change things.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What&#8217;s difficult about this, is that when you grow up being abused, this is exactly what you learn!
