I love reading about what has helped others because it shows that there is hope,\u00a0 not because I expect things they did to always work for everyone else I come into contact with through this site. Some may, many won&#8217;t. That&#8217;s OK.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Just because \u201cJ\u201d \u2014 who has major depression\u00a0 \u2014 reacted well to exercise and didn\u2019t need antidepressants, doesn\u2019t mean that it\u2019ll be the same for \u201cM\u201d who also has major depression. It can be frustrating for someone who wants to connect with others, but feels so different. The base of the illness might be the same, but the symptoms and manifestation could be very different.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This can also be difficult when you\u2019re receiving unsolicited advice. Whether that\u2019s when your mom gives you an article about how bananas helped others with depression or when someone says \u201cOh, my cousin has anxiety and he takes melatonin to sleep, have you tried that?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/themighty.com\/2017\/02\/mental-illness-diagnosis-different-for-everyone\/\">https:\/\/themighty.com\/2017\/02\/mental-illness-diagnosis-different-for-everyone\/<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"syndication-links\"><\/div><span class=\"kt-load-after-post\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have often said that just because something worked for one person in overcoming a mental health issue, or healing from abuse, doesn&#8217;t mean it will work for you.
