Levine and Klein observe that while abusers may use force, \u201cmore often they will use trickery.\u201d And the greatest trickery of all?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDon\u2019t tell your mom.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDon\u2019t tell your dad.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is our special secret.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Children need to be warned that they will be asked to keep secrets and they need to know that any older child or adult who asks them to keep secrets has done something wrong. Levine and Klein encourage parents to support their children in noticing and trusting their gut instincts and asking for help immediately (\u201csay no and tell\u201d).
