“A stranger was able to communicate with the child through YouTube messaging because the child was viewing the site alone on an account that had been set up, known as a \u201cchannel,\u201d the detective said. The \u201cnaive and impressionable\u201d youngster simply followed instructions, oblivious to the danger.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\u201cSomeone showed this child exactly what to do and how to do it,\u201d Balogh said. \u201cI never would have in a million years believed this would happen had I not sat down and interviewed the child and had the child walk me through exactly what happened.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Understand the online platforms, how they work, who can communicate with kids, etc. Teach your kids about the dangers online, and stay involved with them while they are doing it. That’s the best way to prevent this kind of thing from happening and still letting kids learn from the technology available to them.<\/p>\n
