I don’t know that I agree with everything in this article, but there is a lot of good information about how a pedophile might target children and what to look out for. The one thing I definitely do agree with, however is this:
The primary goals of a pedophile are to gain access to a child, gain compliance from a child and maintain secrecy. On television we see pedophiles using threats to control their victims, something like, “If you tell anyone, I’ll kill your mother!” As terrible as this is, the way pedophiles usually control their young victims is even more disgusting.
A pedophile becomes a child’s best friend, a trusted adviser, and makes the child feel loved, accepted and cherished before the abuse begins.
Children with instability in their home like divorce, drug use or domestic violence are particularly vulnerable to these tactics. Gifts or special privileges may be given to the child. The pedophile synchronizes their behaviors with the child’s so they can find a way to get the child alone.
