Forum change

Because of some issues with spammers creating accounts just to post links to sites, I made a change in the forums that create a visual check before you can sign up for an account, and then require me to approve your account before you can post. I don’t think it’ll be too much of a problem, I’ll keep an eye out for new sign ups on an almost daily basis so no one has to wait too long.

Of course, the day I institute this two people sign up for accounts. After no activity other than spam on the forums for weeks, these two new folks had to wait for my approval to post. Luckily, they both did come back and post messages shortly after I approved their accounts. Hopefully they’ll stick around and use the forums to find a voice, and hopefully requiring approval doesn’t dissuade anyone from signing up and posting.

I just upgraded this site to the latest version of Movable Type, if you see anything a little odd, please let me know. Thanks! Also, I’m working with a new blogroll plugin for Movable Type to see if I could maybe make use of that instead of doing everything by hand as I do now….

  • An Important Reminder About Social Media and Privacy

I’ve mentioned this in the past, but in the last week, I’ve had another stark reminder that not everyone is in a place where they can simply share with their social networks the fact that they are a survivor of childhood abuse, or are dealing with mental health issues. If you’ll allow me to quote…

  • Share Your Own Review

Over on the Survivors News and Review blog, we’ve setup a page for you to submit your own review of books, documentaries, movies, etc. that you have found really helpful. • New Newsletter Option

What I have been experimenting with, and which might interest some of you, is the new email newsletter tool that Twitter has made available, called Revue. It’s a little more hands-on than the current newsletter, so while I plan to send it out every Friday, I can’t swear to you that will always happen. On the other hand, I get to add some more stuff to this newsletter because it’s more hands-on. So I can pull in some links from other sources, drop in some text, etc. In essence, I’ll be experimenting with it, but you can expect that the goal will remain the goal I’ve always had with my blog, writing, and sharing interesting things related to surviving child abuse, and mental health issues.

You can subscribe, and take a peek at some of my recent experimental issues over at my Revue profile. I hope you’ll consider subscribing, and sharing with your friends if you find it useful!

  • Putzing around

Sorry, for those of you who have a TypeKey account, I didn’t add the code to actually allow you to sign in using your Typekey registration and leave comments. Ooops. Hopefully it’s working now! OK, so it isn’t working. The Typekey site tells me that this site hasn’t turned the feature on, when, obviously, I…
