What’s Been Distracting Me?

I know I’ve been away from the site for a bit, and have only managed to check in over on the Survivor’s Network every couple of days. I hope the news I recently shared about my professional life will help explain my absence, as well as explain why March might not be any different! 😉

Hopefully, once I’m settled into the new job and the new town, things will get back to normal with my online time again. In the mean time, I hope you’ll be patient with me!

I’m sitting in my office crying. Thankfully the door’s shut and there’s no one standing outside knocking at the moment, because if they were, they’d have to figure out just why the hell I’m sitting in my office with tears rolling down my face and I don’t think I could even tell them. This is…

  • Personal Update

Those of you who follow along on the tech blog know that I was anticipating a long, stressful couple of days this week because of our annual meeting at work. I was looking forward to that being over and done with Weds. night and relaxing. However, that did not turn out to be the case,…

  • The US, where being homeless could be a crime.

You could argue that the outcome will be a large number of people with mental health issues crammed into a massively overburdened prison system with almost no hope of ever getting out. (Where would they go? Back to being homeless and thus getting arrested again.)

We’ve tried that with serious mental illness, and it doesn’t work. It fixes nothing unless you think lots of people with mental health issues dying in prison is the answer. I prefer that most of us are not that callous and uncaring. But most of us aren’t writing these laws and upholding them. That’s for the elite few with power, and I’m not as convinced they would care about anyone with a mental health struggle because they surely don’t do much to provide resources and assistance to struggling people.

  • Been away

I haven’t been updating here as much as I would like to, but hopefully now that Angela’s feeling better, life can get a little bit back to normal! Who knew a little virus could create such havoc in our lives? 🙂 I can tell you that while she gives me a lot of credit for…

  • More about goals

Following up on that last post, I want to expound on a couple of things. Both of them have to do with personal responsibility. The first is something that should be obvious, but I know isn’t to many people. It wasn’t obvious to me for almost 30 years. 🙂 As we’ve already discussed, you can’t…

  • It’s Been a Rough Week So I’m Reminding Myself of These Things

Even when there are things in the world I cannot change, I use my own words to remind myself that there are things I CAN do. I can look after the people around me. I can add my voice to support mental health, survivors, and marginalized groups. I can find small ways to contribute to making the world a better place while also encouraging others to do the same.

  1. You have to give your full concentration on “real life” and getting settled…..that happens to all of us bloggers at some point.

Hope your transition goes smoothly! See you when life slows down.

  2. Mike,

Congrats on the new job and new location. I am really looking forward to you getting back at your blog. I have been searching all over, and there are so few of us dealing with male sexual abuse… that we need to stick together. In the meantime, please let me know what you think of mine. http://www.masteryourhealing.com.

    1. Thanks Erik. no worries, the blog will be here, I’m just going to be a little less consistent for a little while because time will be a bit less available as I move, but it will be back as always as we get into April.

Thanks for sharing your blog, looks like you’ve done a nice job, keep it up!

  3. Good luck with all this new stuff, Mike. I hope it all goes well for you. I am always wishing you the best.

Right now, I’m making the rounds to say goodbye to the blogosphere after five years of blogging. I want to thank you for all your encouragement and support, for my blog and THE BLOG CARNIVAL AGAINST CHILD ABUSE. Thanks for being you and for the work that you do.
