Mental Health Day Blog Party

Mental Health Day Blog PartyPinOver at Psych Central they are gearing up for another Mental Health Day Blog Party.

If you’ve never seen, or taken part, in the annual event before, it is a great way to gorge yourself in reading about mental health, and the various issues that many of us deal with and write about. It’s also a great way to find new voices that maybe you’ve not seen online before.

I plan on taking part myself, by writing a little bit about the chosen topic this year, “dignity in mental health”. I hope that many of you will consider joining me, and if you want to take part but don’t have a blog of your own, feel free to let me know and I’ll see about possibly opening up the book/movie reviews submission form to more personal stories for the day!

Found another blog being written by an abuse survivor over the weekend, Shattered Dollhouse. Seems like I’ve been finding a few more lately, or maybe they’re finding me, eh? Obviously I’m glad to see more people openly talking about abuse and surviving, but at the same time, I’m sad that there are so many of…

  • Looking for Links

Since the wife’s job has her out of town this weekend, I’m taking advantage of the down time to do some much needed updating of this site. Update one was cleaning out some of the dead links in the blogroll. It’s quite a bit shorter now. Given that, there’s some room for new links. I’ll…

  • When Trauma Response are Helpful – And When They Aren’t.

In the big picture, the thing I know that I need to do is to be aware of when I’m in that mode and act accordingly. There can be some great benefits to hypervigilance and there can be some real downsides. If I’m aware of it, I can scan the environment as necessary without ignoring other important, but not dangerous, bits of information, and watch out for my own overreactions. I can consciously use the skill that I learned as a trauma survivor for my own good without it wrecking my day-to-day life or causing more anxiety.

It’s a tricky line to walk, and I’ll be the first to admit I don’t always do it so well.

  • So, How Are You Doing?

But, that’s not what I want to talk about today, because, frankly, I think we’re all talked out on the subject, or at least I feel like I’m all talked out right now. If you don’t realize that anxiety and other mental health issues are sitting heavy on all of us this year, I don’t know that there’s anything I can say that will convince you of it. I want to talk about some good things, because, why not? I want to appreciate the following:

No matter what happens with the election, the sun rose today. It will set tonight, and rise again tomorrow. And I am here to see it.

I am thankful for the many friends and family members we’ve been in touch with in the last few days, even if it’s just to text and say “WTF”?

Laughter, because sometimes there’s nothing else to do but laugh, and it’s good for you.

You are here, reading this. You’re Alive!

Hope, that as long as there is a tomorrow for any of us, there is hope in the fact that things are always changing in the world, and in our lives.

Love. For each other, and ourselves.

    Nature.

The technology that lets us all check in with each other, across the world, at any time.

  • Forum change

Because of some issues with spammers creating accounts just to post links to sites, I made a change in the forums that create a visual check before you can sign up for an account, and then require me to approve your account before you can post. I don’t think it’ll be too much of a…
