If you hadn’t noticed before, this site actually hosts two blogs. One, my personal thoughts and writings, and the other the Survivor News and Reviews, stuff I’m sharing along with some quick thoughts, or sometimes a contribution from someone else. That has always meant two RSS feeds and two email subscriptions for you to follow…

  • Regaining Focus

I’ve discovered, in the process of trying to get regular exercise, that a good workout can really help get myself mentally focused as much as it benefits me physically. Tonight was a fine example. I had a pretty cruddy work day. Came home angry with myself for not being extra cautious and creating a problem that…

    Priorities

This weekend is my wife and my’s sixth anniversary. As it approaches I’ve been thinking quite a bit about marriage and priorities. I’ve been thinking about the fact that I feel somewhat out of touch with my wife right now. Part of that is because we’ve both been dealing with a lot of things. Her…

  • Running on Fumes

I heard someone on the radio use this phrase to describe herself as we were out grabbing a few last-minute items to assist with riding out Hurricane Ida. She was talking about evacuating her home in New Orleans at 10:30 last night, driving to Alabama to seek shelter, and then doing the show remotely from there.

Here, we aren’t in as much of a need to evacuate, we are further from the coast and the storm surge, but it’s still going to be a long, dangerous couple of days. So, we are spending a lot of time, and both mental and physical energy, preparing to possibly be without power, for needing to leave if the house is damaged, and so forth. It’s a lot. And that is on top of all the mental energy necessary to deal with large COVID outbreaks we’ve had in recent weeks, all of the recent events in world news, and the various personal and professional challenges that we are also dealing with.

Running on fumes is a really good description of how I think most of the entire state feels today, and yet, there’s a storm coming that we are all going to have to deal with, while everything else just continues on as well.

    One Thing at a Time

Obviously, things have been a little busy in the life of Mike lately. Actually, it’s not so much that things have been busy that’s kept me away from this blog, it’s the overwhelming number of considerations that have kept my mind occupied on things other than writing about being a survivor. So, I haven’t had…
