When we fail to protect people from predators

The curious thing about this story is how many news outlets describe the murder of Sara Gilson as a response to her claiming her husband was a pedophile, when in fact she only found out when he was caught making out with a player on the team he coached, and that girl’s mother filed charges.

In fact, both women had filed protective orders against him, and she took to social media to simply share the fact that he had been charged.

On the other hand, all of these charges happened in June, and he was still walking around free to murder her.

And we wonder why abuse victims, and people who might suspect abuse, don’t come forward.

@theparanormalfiles This story is absolutely shocking and incredibly horrific. My thoughts go out to Sara’s family. #truecrime #crime #truecrimetok #truecrimetiktok #netflix ? Urban legends, conspiracy theories, talk that incites fear and anxiety(1482511) – DELTA2 TRAKCS

At the end of the day, if we can’t keep the separated spouse of a person under investigation for sexually assaulting and grooming an underage girl safe, what chance do most victims have?

And, maybe more importantly, why should anyone trust any adult with their kids, or themselves? There’s no one coming to save you if things turn violent. Our system is woefully incompetent at that.
