Thank You

I got the first check from the CafePress store in the mail yesterday. It was for $26.30, which, when combined with the $14-15 I’ve got coming from the Amazon links at the end of the year will make a nice little donation to Prevent Child Abuse.

Of note, yes I have decided to go ahead and donate it all, rather than half this year, since the money won’t have covered the hosting fees anyway, and the site had at one time a $35 level which made you a “member”. (That’s not on the site now though, I’ll have to call and confirm that.) Also, most of the CafePress money came from referrals, stores that listed me as the person who turned them on the CafePress, but they don’t list who those stores were! So I really have no idea who the 5 stores are that have me listed as a referrer, and don’t know who to thank for that, so I just have to throw it out as a blanket thank you!

Lastly, I’m thinking about adding some childabusesurvivor.net stuff to the store but the process of coming up with a logo for the site is proving to be a difficult one for me. Hopefully I’ll have something soon!

So, thank you to everyone who made this possible and remember to follow those links to Amazon for your holiday purchases and we can make this year’s donation even bigger than I’m already planning, or if you have some purchases coming up early in 2004, we can get a head start on next year’s funds!

One unrelated note, I’ve started throwing some links and things over in the forums, so remember to check those out. You’ll have to register in order to post anything there, which makes it a bit more of a safe area than the blog is. The public will be able to read them, but if someone wants to say anything they’ll have to provide a valid email address to me and can be therefore be held somewhat accountable. I purposely don’t require that on the blog, where it’s just me and my writings, but for the safety of other folks who might be posting there, I have.

It seems there is more Geocities stuff going on, they are now telling me that due to “maintenance” the site will be unavailable for the weekend of May 17-19. Sugar Ray Leonard and Reacting to Survivors

I was listening to the latest BS Report podcast on ESPN today, an interview done by Bill Simmons with Sugar Ray Leonard. I was aware that Ray openly discusses the sexual abuse he suffered as a child in his recent autobiography, but I hardly expected that to be a major portion of the interview. If…

  • How Much Blame Should We Really Get for not Picking up on Grooming?

Think about it. Right now, this very second, you are reading this post because either you found the headline intriguing and clicked, or someone shared it with you and said you should read it, and you clicked. In both cases, you were persuaded by another person to do something. If you saw it on Facebook or other social media platform, there’s a Facebook algorithm watching you and trying to give you more stuff you like, to persuade you to keep coming back to Facebook, and you’re reading it on a device that you were persuaded to purchase by some other factor in your life.

Not to mention the fact that parents, teachers, or someone, somewhere, persuaded you to learn to read. You were persuaded, even manipulated, to go to school, study, become the sort of person who could get a well-enough paying job to own a piece of technology and pay for an internet connection, and all of that wound up with you, right here, right now.

You were “groomed” to do what you are doing right now. And yet, so many want to look at children, and make them responsible for knowing which persuasion is good for them and which isn’t.
