Blog Carnival
The first ever carnival against child abuse is up today. Looks like quite a few interesting entries. I haven’t had time to peruse them yet, but I definitely will be later this evening. Go check them out!
Pin I’ve noticed a disturbing trend in the survivor community recently, and finally decided to say something about it after a recent post on Facebook this past weekend. The trend is of spreading “news” from clearly fake news websites in order to spread awareness about child abuse. In this case, I’m sure many of you saw,…
As I wrote yesterday on my tech blog, I’m seriously feeling the need to work on some techie projects. I think I just need the outlet and the challenge to balance the non-challenges I have with work right now. Also, like I did on that site, I wanted to give you all the opportunity to…
The May edition of the Carnival Against Child Abuse is up over at ImagineIf and even though it kind of snuck up on me, there appears to be lots of good reading material, once again! It’s hard to believe, but next month will be the carnival’s first birthday. Wow, the year has just flown by!…

Pin While I’m not an expert by any means, I look at it similarly to how I look at mental health in the workplace. That means that they cannot perform their best when they are also dealing with various life situations and struggles that have nothing to do with the immediate work at hand, and we would get better results if we made efforts to support the whole person and not just the robot that is there to do work.
SEL is that for schools. It recognizes that kids come to school with a variety of issues that would hinder their ability to be successful in school, and makes an effort to support them in those struggles so that they can be more successful not only with school work but with the interactions they have with teachers and other students.
But, this acronym has gotten mixed in with all the other things that some parents are upset about and they are demanding that schools stick to teaching math, science, and reading instead. Let me try and point out why this is a mistake.
Yes last weekend was my 36th birthday. On the 4th, as a matter of fact. It made for a fun weekend, what with your normal 4th of July festivites on top of various birthday celebrations. It was rather nice to have a 3 day weekend, to spend time with family and friends, relax, celebrate, etc….
