Abuse Related Interest Lists?

Over on my tech blog, I’ve been writing a few posts about the challenges of getting your posts actually viewed by people who have “liked” your Facebook page, and now some more thoughts about adding a page you want to follow more closely to an interest list. That got me thinking about creating, and sharing, a child abuse survivor related interest list over on Facebook.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the time right now to try and put that together, however since you can create a public list and share it so others could subscribe to it, I did want to reach out to my readers, and Facebook “likers”, and see if anyone had done that and wanted to share the list in the comments. Let me know if you have done that, especially if you’ve added this blog’s Facebook page to it as well!

I could not heal until I unlearned that my abuse was something I somehow caused. Unlearning that opened up the possibility of learning something different, namely, that I was abused because someone decided to abuse me. Did that happen overnight? Of course not! Unlearning is a process, and the more closely we identify with a belief, the more difficult it becomes to unlearn it. So many survivors learn at a very early age to keep secrets, that bad things will happen if they tell anyone.

People who’ve never had that belief drilled into their young minds wonder why victims wait decades to come forward and tell their stories. That’s why! That belief is hard to unlearn. Many of us grew up with silence being the thing that prevents the abuse from being worse. Why should we start discussing it? If you tried to tell someone as a child and got shut down, this only gets worse.

I know, things are a whole lot different around here. I had tried, last night, to upgrade to the latest version of Movable Type, in an effort to add in some new features to the site that I’ve been mulling over in my head. However, that upgrade went horribly awry, only the latest of many…

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this subject of late. I won’t get into any of the details of why, but suffice it to say, I’ve had a number of conversations and seen stories of people who find themselves in situations, as adults, that from the outside seem easily changeable, yet they don’t do…

I was reading a post over at Robert Scoble’s blog today about what he’s been doing, the things he’s learning about himself and how his blogging fits into his life. It’s all very interesting. As you know, I have two blogs, so these questions about how they fit into my life, and what part of…

If you’re seeing this, then you have gotten the updated DNS pointing you to the new server(s). I’ve moved all of my sites to a new place, and am looking forward to the increased abilitites with this set-up. Of course, finding the time to implement some of my ideas may be another thing entirely..:)
