Northern England Kid-on-Kid Abusers sentenced

The attackers of two boys aged 9 and 11 in Northern England, who were of a similar age themselves, were jailed indefinitely with a minimum term of five years last Friday. This followed their admission to some charges to halt any further trial on attempted murder. Naturally, many think this is too low and there have been several official petitions to the Appeal Courts to have the sentence defined as unduly lenient, which would result in an increased tariff.

The initial reaction is archived at the BBC (see second link in the above paragraph), but more in-depth print interviews were posted by the Sunday papers, the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Mirror. You can read them at the links below.

What was different for them? What kind of help or support was available for them as children compared to the others who did suffer from these issues? What kind of trauma were they dealing with? What kind of community did they live in? What resources were made available for them?
