None of the songs on the list were ones I listened to when I needed some motivation, but were they yours?
For me, being kind of a punk/alternative fan, it was much more about songs like Sometimes by Midnight Oil, or The Clash’s I’m Not Down.

In addition to the original betrayal, many survivors are then betrayed a second time when they are not believed or the abuse is minimized. When the people who should be protecting them refuse to see what is happening or refuse to believe that person that they trust would do such a thing, the child is betrayed by a second person, or a third, fourth, etc. Add in the fact that while these extra betrayals are happening it is also unlikely that the child is getting any assistance that could help alleviate PTSD with early interventions.
In short, the more betrayal, the more suffering. We all have a responsibility to, at the very least, not add to the betrayal.
It’s not just that surviving a traumatic childhood prevents us from learning various things in childhood that we need to learn later in life to be successful. The takeaway, of course, is that we should believe survivors when they talk about their trauma; they do know what they are talking about. Secondly, maybe we should stop trying to convince ourselves that young children will move past it and likely not even remember it when they’re an adult.
That’s not how trauma works.
