Sharing – Advice, resources for parents of children with mental health issues
The article below has tips on supporting kids with substance abuse and mental health issues, but the part I wanted to draw your attention to is how much of it revolves around staying involved with kids.
I’ve often said many of the same things about protecting kids from abuse. You must pay attention and be involved in their behavior to notice the red flags. For them to come to you with the problem, they need to know that you are a safe person who supports them. Supporting them through healing and recovery means staying connected with them.
It all comes down to having safe, supportive, and involved adults (parents and others). Kids need that more than anything else. No social media or screen bans can replace that.
