It looks like For Better or Worse , the comic, is bringing sexual assault to the funny pages. While it doesn’t involve a minor, it does involve the sexual advances on a girlfriends’ much younger daughter. That’s all too common, and probably all too familiar to folks who have dealt with childhood sexual trauma in some way as well. It’ll be interesting to see how the story continues.
Pin Ellie damaged the lives of people she falsely accused. She has also potentially damaged the lives of many more victims who will be silenced because of this.
Marj, from the Survivors Can Thrive blog, left a comment and let me know about a new project she has started called Silence the Shame, which she describes as a secret-sharing space. I think it’s an interesting idea, creating a place for anyone to share their secrets and get support. Check it out for yourself.
Pin Yes, it’s May, and that means it’s Mental Health Month, one of the times of the calendar year where we try and share stories, resources, and the life the voices of those struggling with their own mental health.

We aren’t grieving a person we’ve lost, we’re grieving something we never had. A safe, happy childhood or a loving parental relationship that didn’t exist. The lack of any kind of family bonds as an adult, or the inability to trust anyone. Those are things we can, and should, grieve. Often we aren’t given the chance to do that. Other people expect us to “put it behind us” because it was a long time ago. We may even convince ourselves that the best option is to suck it up and forget it, no reason to think about any of that. But, I think there’s a reason to grieve the things we didn’t have as children. They are very real losses. They have very real impacts on our brains and our emotional well-being. We can’t change it now, but we can allow ourselves the freedom to feel grief over it. It’s part of the process.Â
Pin So, how are we holding up after a month or more in COVID-19-related lockdown? Clearly, it’s tough all the way around. I’m not going to sugarcoat any of it because it sucks. Whether you have gotten sick yourself, know someone who has, or lost someone who has, or don’t know anyone but are dealing with…
