Projects

As I wrote yesterday on my tech blog, I’m seriously feeling the need to work on some techie projects. I think I just need the outlet and the challenge to balance the non-challenges I have with work right now. Also, like I did on that site, I wanted to give you all the opportunity to have some input:

“I’ve got a number of things in mind for this site and the Child Abuse site, but no firm decisions on what I really want to accomplish. I’ll keep you informed as we go along, but in the mean time, what do you want to see here, or there? More interactivity? More community? Do you want less of my thoughts and more links? Do you think the abuse site needs some community around it? Do you want to forget you ever saw this site? 🙂 I’m willing to listen to most ideas. I’m not promising I’ll actually follow through on any of it, but I’ll listen. ”

So what do you say?

Thanks for the Memories – Good and Bad

Recently, an old friend started going through some old photo albums and scanning in the photos in order to share them on Facebook. She and I were in the same church group back in those days, and many of the photos, despite being a cringe-worthy reminder of some the things we did in our younger…

  • This is why I do this..

I’m sitting in my office crying. Thankfully the door’s shut and there’s no one standing outside knocking at the moment, because if they were, they’d have to figure out just why the hell I’m sitting in my office with tears rolling down my face and I don’t think I could even tell them. This is…

  • Clergy abuse victim

One of the more prominent victims of sexual abuse by a priest, Patrick McSorley, has apparently killed himself this week. I think the best summary of this situation is what Andrew Sullivan had to say about it, “some scars never heal“. No, some never do, you either learn to live with them, or they kill…

  • What Are We Unlearning from Childhood Anyway?

These all ring so true to either my own experience or the experiences of other survivors I have known through the years. One of the biggest hurdles we have to clear before we can really even begin to have a semi-normal adult life is believing that the way we grew up is the way all relationships work. Even all these years later, I still have to remind myself that what I do is good enough, at home and at work. Or that it’s OK to emotionally connect with new people. It’s really difficult to unlearn those lessons from childhood, and yet it’s so freeing to realize that what happened to us, wasn’t because any of these were true. What happened to us was the result of someone else’s actions that are completely unrelated to who we are, or what we deserved.

  1. Mike,

Hi. I think that you should do whatever you would like with the site. One thing I appreciate about your site and might like to see expanded is a greater sense of community of survivors.

    Just my 2 cents

  2. Leah, that’s exactly what I was thinking, trying to create more of a community, I’m just not sure exactly how to get that “community” feel? I’m working on some things though!

  3. Hi Mike,
I have been lurking around, reading your blog for several months. You are doing a fine job. Don’t stop writing your personal thoughts, that is my favorite part. Hang in there…..Penny

  4. Thanks for the comment Penny, and don’t worry, this part of the site isn’t going anywhere, the blog will always be part of it, I’m just trying to think through how to make the site feel more like it’s your site, and how you can contribute.
