When All Else Is Lost, The Future Still Remains

I saw this quote the other day by Cristian Nestell Bovee in a LinkedIn status, and I thought to myself, what a perfect way to think about overcoming childhood abuse.

There are many who would tell us that the pain of child abuse is so awful that it’s worse than death. That victims of horrific abuse would almost be better off dead. I’ve never been an advocate of that point of view, for this very reason.

As long as you are alive, there is hope. Hope in a better tomorrow, hope for healing, hope for happiness. I don’t care how horrific the abuse was; if you’re alive today, there is hope, because the future hasn’t been written yet, and it is up to you.

YoMonkey posted a survey in the forums, hoping that some folks will take the time to help her with a study she is conducting to help high school kids understand the effects of child abuse. You can send her an email from that post with your answers, or, I suppose, you could just answer them…

It’s Hard to Have Hope Right Now

We need each other now, as always. We need our community. We need our connections. We need to know that we are not alone in this. So, let me, in the midst of my own exhaustion, do this one thing. If you’re feeling hopeless, angry, anxious, depressed, etc. because of the state of the world, or the state of your job, the losses you’ve suffered, the issues you are fighting for, the struggle to hang on to hope, you are not alone. I am with you. I see you. I share your exhaustion, frustration, anger, and your need for rest. Whether we’ve talked about this personally, or if you’re simply holding this all in and trying to keep it together, I see you. I’m with you. We are together in this, and we should share the little bits of hope with each other. They may be hard to see, but the more of us who are dedicated to looking for them, and sharing them, the more of it we’ll draw strength from.

  • On days like this

I really feel my past on days like today. Days in which nothing seems to go right and I get really, really angry at myself for not being able to make them go right. Of course that anger gets misplaced on to anyone who happens to be around at the moment, because I don’t seem…
