New Male Survivor CSA forum

Survivor Island is another resource aimed at male survivors of child abuse with a members-only section to the wider forum. However the initial concentration started with teenagers though the site is open to all ages. Further resources are planned in future. The link is as follows;

Meanwhile, back in the UK, AMSOSA, formerly Survivors Swindon continues in the same vein as SI, though it’s essentially members only by default and the UK definition of adult starts from 18 with less of the grey area that arises with American sites. We mentioned it earlier but didn’t link a few articles back, so should you wish to post at the latter forum the password would have to be requested. Follow the instructions on the index page at the following address;

  • Sharing – Other People Don’t Think You’re a Mess

    The key is to have some compassion for yourself, similar to the compassion you might have for someone else in a vulnerable situation. When you can do that, suddenly what the other person does isn’t as important, you’ve given yourself grace, and acceptance.

    As childhood abuse survivors, of course, this is tricky. Self-compassion is not generally one of our strengths. How could it be? All our lives we’ve been told that bad things happen either to bad people, or for a reason, and we’ve had something horrible happen to us, so we must be broken in some way to have had that experience. Didn’t we all think that way at one point or another? How could we not?

  • Sharing – Not all children realise they are being abused

    The sexual abuse of children was something that happened when dudes in vans kidnapped children. No one mentioned that you could be sexually abused in your own home. If you asked me as a kid if I was being abused, I would have said no, even as every definition of that word applied to me. There was no education, no awareness programs, and no discussion about sexual abuse anywhere in the public sphere, so I didn’t know until I met someone in my early twenties who talked about being the victim of sexual abuse.

  • Peter Connelly, formerly Baby P, and his killers fully identified

    We couldn’t let the day finish without remarking on a watershed child abuse case that started two years ago and whose effects are continuing to ripple throughout the UK. The court order preventing the identification of this child’s killers was lifted by a judge. (We don’t know if this ever applied to other countries). We…

  • Would you Rather Talk Mental Health with a Bot?

    I’m glad so many people are open to having a robot therapist, because as we have discussed many times, we don’t have nearly enough therapists to treat everyone who needs it, and you can’t just create more trained therapists very quickly. With good enough artificial intelligence programming, we CAN spin up more trained chat robots to meet the need. Is the programming good enough today? I don’t know. I’m guessing there is still some work to do, but at what point is it better than what we have now for so many people, which is nothing?
