UK Teacher Response to BBC R4 Survey
BBC Radio 4 reported on the response to a survey given to teachers in UK schools and the results regarding the ability to tackle peer-on-peer sexual abuse in the classroom. The results of the survey have been summarised at the BBC’s News website. The link is below.
Sharing – Mental health is not an individual matter, but a political one
It’s not that we shouldn’t look at the individual cases; we should. But we have to address the systemic harm done to mental health by these issues. We have to stop pretending that economic issues don’t create mental health risks and ignore the real harm we do when we do nothing to lift people out of poverty or end racism and economic deprivation beyond calling anyone who wants to do those things a socialist.
It’s not working. It’s not solving the real problem.
Sharing – Why telehealth for mental health care is working
It’s all about flexibility. As the article below points out, online appointments don’t work for everyone. They do require a stable and fast internet connection for video, and not everyone has that.
On the other hand, they also point out that not everyone has transportation to a therapist’s office, time away from work to regular travel to appointments, or the ability to get the whole family, for example, transportation to the same location.
For those folks, the switch to Telehealth that the pandemic thrust upon all of us is proving to be a godsend because they have something that was inaccessible to them previously. Even as others need a place to meet with a therapist, or simply connect better in person.
