Link – UK Athletics accused of ‘cover-up’ over handling of sexual abuse allegation – BBC Sport
A former athlete has alleged, in details issued through her lawyers, that Darrell Bunn groomed her when she was 16, and then sexually abused her.
The athlete, now in her 30s and unable to be named for legal reasons, said she complained to UKA in 2003.
After an investigation, Bunn was allowed to continue working in sport, supervised when coaching under-18s.
There’s been a lot of talk about abuse in underage football in the UK, but let’s face it, football is hardly the only sport when minors are under the influence and control of coaches. Anywhere that situation exists, there’s a possibility of grooming and abuse happening. These sports need much more oversight than they’ve traditionally had.
The same thing is true in every other country too.
