Link – Physical Vs. Mental Heartbreak: Why Is Depression Treated Differently?

“Why Was My Mental Heartbreak Not Taken as Seriously as My Physical Heartbreak?”

This is a good question. Why is it easy for us to support someone getting surgery, and encourage them to see experts and take medication as needed, but not do exactly the same for a mental health diagnosis?

Why do people feel like they can support someone with a physical injury without “fixing” them, but constantly try to fix someone’s depression?

Just stop it already. What someone with depression needs is the same as someone recovering from surgery. Love, support, patience, understanding.

That’s all.
