Ashley provides some insight from her own experiences, but I think it all comes down to this:
“If you have a mental illness and work at either a paid job or a volunteer gig, chances are at some point you’ll be faced with the question of whether to disclose your mental illness at work, and if so, how much. While employers may not be legally allowed to discriminate, the possibility of negative repercussions is still very real.”
Only you can decide whether being open and sharing your mental health issue at work is appropriate for you, and it’ll depend a whole lot on the environment and you’re willingness and ability to deal with the potential blow back. Don’t let anyone force you into either decision. You are the only one who can know it, but it also doesn’t hurt to get feedback and read about other’s experiences while you consider it.
