The Wilder Foundation works with schools in the St. Paul, MN area, and they make a really good argument for having on-site mental health services in school. I can’t even find just one piece that makes the most sense, it all does. Take a look, and start to think about how we might get this sort of thing available in your school districts.
We know that early intervention in mental health, and childhood trauma, is key. Schools represent a good place to do exactly that. Why not give it a try? Of course, it always comes down to resources, and sadly, schools just don’t have them.
So maybe the question we need to ask ourselves is how do we change that? What message do we need to get out to change people’s minds about this?
