Mental Health

Link – Most people think there is a stigma attached to mental health at work

Does anyone in the US think the percentages would be lower? I think not…

“A study by CIPD course providers, DPG Plc, found that 85% of UK workers thought that there was still a stigma attached to mental health issues and stress in the workplace — even though one in four people are affected by a mental illness, according to the NHS.

The survey was conducted among 1,000 employed adults in the UK, more than a quarter (26%) of whom had taken a day off work due to stress or another mental health problem, and lied about the reason.”

The article also goes on to point out that only 20% of people felt their manager was fully equipped to support them, which I suspect is a large part of why there is still so much stigma around it at work. Actually dealing with and supporting people is not part of what we typically teach managers, unfortunately, and that’s why we have so much bad management.
