Sharing – What is… the just world fallacy

This is such an important concept for survivors to understand, because we deal with so much shame around this idea:

Do you think we live in a fair world where good things happen to good people and bad things only happen to bad people?  Whether you believe this on a conscious level or not, chances are your brain wants to organize the world into neat and tidy boxes that way.

The problem is, the world doesn’t actually work that way, and horrible things happen to wonderful people every day.

Go read, and understand why your abuse was not because you are a bad person, and why it’s so easy for people to blame the victim.

Turns out this illusion is so powerful that we will ignore reality rather than accept that the world isn’t just, or fair.
