Sharing – How Does Sleep Affect Your Mental Health?

In short, lack of sleep = some increased likelihood of depression and anxiety, impaired function, and an inability to learn new things.

We often hear about how the sharp rise in these things coincides with the rise of technology in our day to day lives, especially the smartphone, but I don’t think it’s quite that simple.

The phone doesn’t force you to sleep less, It’s what we are all doing with our phones, the non-stop connectivity. The always-on workplace, the glamorization of overwork, and social media popularity, and the near constant need to not “miss” anything, whether it be the latest social media craze, Netflix show, or travel adventure.

All of that adds up to less sleep, and that adds up to poor outcomes.

We need to find a way to glamorize living a life that includes getting enough sleep, in addition to other things. Otherwise, we’re asking for trouble.
