Wil Wheaton Discusses His Mental Illness

One of the things I really took away from Wil’s discussion about how he sought help and how he’s been affected by mental illness was his description of waiting so long because he didn’t realize anything was wrong. He spent years battling the “noise” in his head without realizing that it was actually a a disorder.
I think, among many other reasons, that’s why it’s so important to discuss mental illness. How many things do we just accept because it’s the way we’ve always known things to be, when we could have been getting help and overcoming if only we’d known that it wasn’t something everyone else was experiencing and just not talking about? Good for Wil for standing up and describing what it’s like to live with the disorder, but also provide hope that it can be overcome!
