BBC Director-General Quits Following Savile Case and Mistaken CSA ID on Newsnight Report

George Entwhistle resigned after seven weeks in the job of BBC Director General. This decision was taken in agreement with the BBC Trust and followed tough interviews on the corporation’s own Today Radio and Breakfast Television flagship shows this morning. Despite the various enquiries happening regarding the Savile case, the fuelling the flames of the mistaken identifying of the wrong Conservative Tory politician Wales on the same show, in the past week, was the final straw when Entwhistle claimed he was unaware of both the mistake and the Guardian’s correct front page from Friday 9th November explaining that the wrong man had been named on social networks.

The BBC has the story here , The Guardian has re-opened a blog about it here and head over to Google News as well for what will be a widespread reaction to immediate events that happened within the past few hours this evening.
