Link – It’s Okay to Talk – But, It’s Also Okay to Take Medication

Let me go one further. It’s OK to use whatever tools are available that help you! Everyone is different and there’s no reason for anyone to not use all available tools, talk therapy, medication, exercise, etc. as long as they help!

Don’t let anyone shame you into not taking care of your own mental health because it’s not they way they would choose to, it’s your mental health.

  • Sharing – What American Mental Health Care Is Missing

We actually know the things that can offer hope, we just don’t have a system that can deliver them. Our system is broken, the medical community can offer medicine and some limited treatment options but the day-to-day support and the work to reach a state of something more than symptom reduction doesn’t actually exist for most people.

This has to change. Go read more of what he has to say, I think for many of you it will seem familiar, but maybe provide some hope that we are not alone in seeing it.

Now if we can just find enough of us to care enough to fix it. We should all want to, mental health issues will happen to someone we all know and care about, eventually. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to offer a system that does not involve homelessness and prison time for far too many?

I decided to stay because I knew that, eventually, that final day was coming for me anyway. All of this was temporary.

I remind myself of that when I feel anxious or make a mistake in front of people. All of this is temporary. Whatever embarrassment I might feel at this moment, eventually, everyone involved will not be here to talk about it, and I won’t be here to be embarrassed by it.

I find that freeing. It is freeing to remember that I’m only here temporarily and to remind myself that I only have so much time to do the things I want to do and make the impact on people’s lives that I want to make.

These are, indeed, sobering statistics coming out of the UK: “The latest research indicates that one in eight children now has a diagnosable mental health disorder — up from one in 10 in 2004. But these are just the reported cases. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45. Today, that…
