The British free telephone service Childline will face cuts when 20% of the volunteer workforce will be withdrawn from the charity. 75 salaried positions will also be made redundant. We’ll comment on this story later, right now the Mail on Sunday has the main story here. – CBG
News of the Conneticut Shootings cleared worldwide news schedules yesterday. Before this, the UK government decided that an automatic internet block on viewing porn at the ISP level, forcing those wishing to view adult images to opt in, was impractical. An interesting little snippet from CBS about Al Nixon, and the good he does just by sitting on a park bench in the morning and listening. I thought it worth sharing because it demonstrates the power of listening in terms of making people feel seen, and connected. It’s not therapy, and it won’t fix everything but as he says “When you listen to someone, you let them know I value you”.
