Link – Paid Peer Support Is Helping To Fill Treatment Gaps For Some With Serious Mental Illness

Texas is one of more than 35 states that finance peer services through Medicaid. There’s a severe shortage of mental health care providers in the state, so certified peer specialists are bridging the gap.

This isn’t a bad way to go. We know there aren’t enough resources available. We know that others who have been through recovery can help others navigate through the process of getting help, and we know that simply seeing others who have made it through can be a huge help for people dealing with mental health issues. Why not invest in peer support resources?
