Sharing – A stranger’s words have a ripple effect on one man’s life

After Brian Perkins refused a stranger’s help, her actions changed his life forever.

Brian’s story is a powerful reminder to me of two things that I think are incredibly important, especially this week:

  1. Small acts of kindness can make a massive difference in people’s lives.
  2. Allowing others to offer small acts of kindness is just as important to us as it is to them.

We all can do small acts of assistance with friends, family, coworkers, and strangers. When someone does, it confirms our shared humanity, which far too many people are not feeling right now. It shows us that we are worthy of assistance. It also shows us the power of accepting assistance when offered because when someone offers to help us, we can connect with that person in that shared humanity.

We all need more shared humanity. We all need more connection.

Also, what were those words that she said to Brian?

“I know you. You’ve been helping people all your life. Now it’s your turn. Accept it.”

We all need a turn. Offer it to others and accept it when they offer it to you.
