When a survivor’s story is weaponized – don’t ask why people don’t come forward

Dr. Amy Acton is running for Ohio governor.

Amy Acton is also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. At the age of 12, she became estranged from her mother due to the abuse she suffered at the hands of her new husband.

Her opponent is running a political ad featuring Dr. Acton’s mother calling her a liar with mental illness.

And yet, some people still can’t understand why survivors don’t come forward. Give me a break.

Also, if you live in Ohio, this is what the Republican candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, thinks of child abuse survivors. I don’t often talk much about individual politicians on here, but sometimes you have to point out the active harm being done to survivors. This is one of those times when, no matter how mad this makes you feel, it’s not mad enough.
