Misconception

I can see from my server logs an increasing amount of traffic coming in from specific searches. For the record, this is a site wrtten by someone who was a victim of child abuse, and it contains links to photos that I have taken, mostly from my travels over the last few years. There are no “pictures of child abuse” here! The pictures are purely G rated fare, the sort of thing your grandparents might have made slides out of. 🙂

So, if you came here looking for pictures of abused children, for whatever reason, please move along. Nothing to see here…

At least it’s new to me. I was reading this article about a little boy who will be walking in DC for child abuse victims and noticed a mention of darknesstolight.org. Looks like a very wealth of information on childhood sexual abuse.

  • Leveraging Technology

As I’m sure you all know, I’m very interested in the idea of leveraging technology when it comes to spreading the word about child abuse, whether that be by getting the facts out in the open, or making sure that survivors know they are not alone. That’s why I have this site. That’s also why…

  • We Still Have to Talk about Why Sexual Assault Victims, Including Kids, Don’t Come Forward

Never mind the fact that they might have tried to tell someone and got shut down.

Never mind the fact that they might have told someone who didn’t believe them.

Never mind the fact that telling someone is going to create a massive conflict within their own family.

Never mind the fact that it’s doubtful that any conviction will occur if they tell the police.

Never mind the fact that they will now, and maybe forever, be seen as damaged goods by a large segment of society.

Never mind that, no matter how heinous the crime, they’ll have to answer question after question about what they did to provoke it.

  • Back from hiatus

I was glad this evening to see that Leah came back from blog-hiatus, as promised. Glad to have her back! Unlike Leah, I went on hiatus without telling anyone. It was really sort of an unplanned hiatus. I’ve just been very, very busy. Work has been crazy with staff turnover, getting people trained and functions…

  • When Triggered Some of Us Become Different People

As she and her guests shared their stories and the research around how this happens, I kept replacing all of the stories; the pain of giving birth, the struggle to bike up 4,000 feet of incline, and others with trauma and PTSD flashbacks. When we have those kinds of reactions, we become different people. Often, we become the child who was being abused instead of the adult we are, and we act accordingly. We lash out, self-protect in unhealthy ways, or try our best to hide from it.

The exact reactions are not the important thing. We need to know that it happens. When in an extreme emotional state, we can act like a different person. We all do. The problem is that we don’t know that person. We are not good at predicting how we will react. When we are in a calm state, the warm-state version of us makes no sense, and how we think we’ll act turns out not to be what actually happens.

  1. I think that you shuold put pictures of the abused children on the internet because it would make a change in some abuser lives and it could cause less abusive things happening in the world today. I know waht some people do may not change but there are some people that may change some day after looking at hte damage and scars that they heve casted upon a little innocent child.

  2. Child abuse makes me sick. I have been in a few abusive times that I can remember. I feel very sorry for the way children are talked to and in most times touched. Any person in their right mind would not touch a little innocent child in any harmful or violating way. Those children have my wishes and prayers to be in a safe place and a good home.

  3. I would suggest that you provide photos of children that are abused for those that would like to present to other individuals of what the effects are of child abuse. I myself have been a victim and I don’t see a problem with giving proof of damages that were done because of individuals who choose to act purely out of selfishness and evil. I want to present to my class the statistics of child abuse and to give them a visual aid on what becomes of children that are abused.

  4. people who do these type of things are called
nothings, people that do this type of stuff it
was done to them and they turn out to be what they were.
