CH4 News Analysis on Cleveland Kidnap And Rescue

ByCBG May 13, 2013 Reading Time: 1 minute

Over the weekend video of the police breaking in to rescuse the three abductees Cleveland was released. Following the kidnapper’s charging and the reaction of his family, the women have since appealed for privacy, showing the media has learned zero from Jaycee Lee Dugard’s rescue and return in how to treat victims of this specific kidnap and abuse situation. Channel 4 news In England had a good discussion about it late last week which you can view here. (Flash required)

Sharing – I’m Open About My Depression—But Not Completely
ByMikeM February 24, 2021February 24, 2021 Reading Time: 2 minutes

As I have written before, being an advocate online for me means writing, sharing information and insights, interacting with other survivors, etc. but sometimes I just can’t. Not because I’ve lost interest or don’t want to do it, but because I’m just tired of the pushback. I’m tired of having stories about male victims challenged or dismissed, tired of people in the mental health space telling me that everyone should just do what worked for them, tired of dealing with other people’s definitions of what healing looks like, or how long it should take, and on and on.

It’s all stigma, it’s all the stigma that I want to fight against, but some days it’s just exhausting. So I’d rather not talk about it.

“What kind of relief is affordable, efficient, effective and nontoxic? The answer is touch. Hugs and other forms of non-sexual physical soothing, such as hand-holding and head-stroking, intervene at the physical level to help the brain and the body calm down from overwhelming states of anxiety, panic and shame.” Sadly, for many survivors of sexual…

Sharing – Killing disclosure: The unspoken effect of the death penalty for child rapists in Louisiana
ByMikeM February 26, 2026February 25, 2026 Reading Time: 1 minute

I’ve gotten some grief online for suggesting that murdering people who abuse children isn’t what the victim needs. Maybe, if you hear it from an expert, you’ll understand what I feel as a survivor who wouldn’t have told anyone if I knew it could lead to the death of another person, even my abuser.

Sharing – 15 Mental Health Resources for People of Color
ByMikeM June 2, 2020June 1, 2020 Reading Time: 2 minutes

I, frankly, did not realize these statistics about therapists, but if I stop to think much about it, I’m not surprised. According to a 2015 study by the American Psychological Association, 83.6 percent of psychologists are White, while only 14.6 percent combined are Black, Latinx and Asian (and that doesn’t even account for Native Americans and other minority communities). While therapists specialize in a variety of…

Link – The many faces of Colin Gregg: Teacher, charity boss and paedophile
ByMikeM April 6, 2017April 3, 2017 Reading Time: 1 minute

It’s a familiar story, yet so many people think that only weird, anti-social people could be pedophiles. No, it’s usually someone kids, and adults, know and trust. They will not “look” like a predator. On the surface Colin Gregg appeared to be a pillar of the community but he used his status to prey on…
