I have not seen the new movie Spotlight, and with my current travel/work schedule there’s not much chance that I will see it any time soon. If you have, what did you think of how it portrayed the abuse?

As a blogger, and social media user, yes I want to try and be as careful as I can to post supportive messages, and not make anyone feel stigmatized through my words. That’s important, but I also have to remember that everyone is different. When you’re talking with someone through whatever medium, it’s important to not assume ill-intent. If the term “getting help” feels stigmatizing to you, simply ask people not to use it, suggest some other terms, etc. Have a conversation about how you want to talk about your mental health. Keep the lines of communication open, on both sides.
That’s how you end stigma. By communicating, instead of shutting anyone down.
It’s always good to have programs that teach children how to be safe online or off, yet not scare them away from everything! Good for ICE to have this program available. It’s the 10th-leading cause of death, but you’ll almost never see it mentioned in an obituary. It kills as many people as breast cancer nationally, but it’s not recognizable by a ribbon or race. In Ohio, it claims a life every seven hours. Experts say this is 100 percent preventable. We can stop these deaths….
No one should be thrown into online, or offline, society without meaningful education about things like consent, what constitutes illegal behavior, the signs of grooming and so on. It’s just setting them up for failure, and victimization. Why would we do that to anyone? Or do people with intellectual and development disabilities not deserve that same consideration?
