Thankful That You’re Here

Since tomorrow is the Thanksgiving holiday here in the US, and I have been writing about the idea of thankfulness each year at this time, I just wanted to take a minute to say that I’m thankful for you, the readers of this site. I’m grateful that you take the time to read, comment, send me links, share posts from here with your social networks, and sometimes even let me know when something written on the site has had a positive influence on you. Knowing that someone, somewhere, is getting something out of this site makes all the time and effort worthwhile.

Beyond all of that, though, I’m also glad you’re here in a more existential sense. I’m glad you’re here, still working to move forward in healing. I’m happy you haven’t let the abuse take more than it already has, that you are doing whatever you can to heal, and that you are supporting others who are trying to heal as well. It may not always look that appealing, and it might be the toughest thing you’ve ever done, but as long as you’re here, there’s at the very least hope for healing and joy to come to your life. That sure beats the alternative!

Enjoy your holiday, however you are marking it!

Reasons I Didn’t Tell Anyone I was Being Sexually Abused

That’s why when people approach me with ideas for how to prevent childhood sexual abuse, the only two things I focus on are education and honesty. I didn’t even know I was being abused because I lacked any education, and I didn’t talk to anyone because there were no safe adults for me to talk to.

If you want to prevent abuse, do those things. Talk to kids about sex, abuse, rape, violence, and LGBTQ issues. Please give them the vocabulary to talk about what is happening to them, to define what is right and wrong, and a place to get their questions answered honestly, get good information on the topic, and have open conversations without judgment.

If you aren’t willing to provide that for kids, I guarantee you there is a predator out there who will be more than happy to fill in the spaces for the kids around you and teach them about sex. You’re not going to like what they teach them.

  • Following My Own Advice – Calling Out False Pedophile Stories

I have been on record saying that if you truly believe in a cause, and the importance of it, you need to be the first to call out untruths.

I’ve said it about false rape allegations, false child abuse allegations, fake hate crimes, etc.

If you believe rape, abuse, and hate crimes are big issues that our society needs to be concerned with, and that the victims need to believed, you need to be the first to call it out when someone undermines the issue by spreading false stories.

So, while it may cost me some followers, let me just say this. If you believe QAnon conspiracy theories about elite pedophile gangs and sex trafficking rings with zero proof aside from some seeming coincidences with a bunch of half-true facts, and go spreading them around, you are undermining the very serious issue we have in society with actual, real pedophiles, elite and otherwise, and real, true to life, sex trafficking.

  • From a comment

Someone left this in a comment: I’ve found that feeling nothing is *usually* worse than being happy and sometimes having it taken away. You know, that’s something that doesn’t get talked about a whole lot, but I would like to discuss further. Yes having emotional pain is terrible, and can be quite unpleasant, to say…

  • What is it Like to Not Have Depression?

Last night, I came across an interesting article about depression, titled 50 Sufferers Describe Depression For People Who’ve Never Been Depressed In response to sharing that article, on Twitter, Reine Jade had a wish that took the concept and turned it around. @SurvivorNetwork I wish there was a list where other people describe what…

  1. I would first like to wish you Happy Holidays! I am a survivor of child neglect, and abuse. First neglected, then put into foster care, where I was finally wanted. Only to be put up for adoption, where I was abused daily until I found a way to get away. I have at age 50 finally written a book about my abuse. “September’s Child” is my story. I wrote this as the emotionless child I was back then. I know your pain to a certain extent. I applaud you for your efforts in reaching out to those who need help in healing. Bless You
