Link – When It Felt Like I Had No One to Reach Out To, I Found Support In Online Communities

I think Eric’s story is compelling, and I suspect it’s way more common that we know. I’ve seen a few of the Facebook groups he talks about, and they are huge. It’s hard to feel alone when there’s a group with 10’s of thousands of members also talking about mental health issues.

“So whether you’re “lurking,” actively participating in an online support group, or attending one in person, simply belonging to a mental health support group can give you the confidence to cope better with the heavy lows knowing that you are not alone and that help is there if you need it.”

I don’t necessarily think online communities can replace therapy and other forms of treatment, but I know for a fact they can augment it, and have a huge impact.

What groups do you turn to when you just need someone to listen?
