These are pretty good. If you believe any of them, you should maybe re-think your strategy for keeping your kids safe. It truly isn’t as simple as checking the registry and telling your kids to avoid strangers. Despite what those who created those sorts of tools tell you, the vast majority of abuse victims are not abused by socially awkward, and unknown, men. It’s usually someone the family knows and trusts.

What we don’t hear a lot about are the details, specifically, about what happens when the treatment resources don’t exist to meet the need. We may not think we are rounding up unhoused people and putting them in jails, but where do we think they will go when there aren’t enough treatment options? That’s going to include a lot of kids escaping abusive homes. Other kids end up hanging around the ER waiting for treatment if they aren’t in a penal facility already. Plenty of others remain in dangerous situations while they and their parents stay and search for somewhere to get treatment.

Sharing – Maybe You’re Not an Introvert. Maybe It’s a Trauma Response.

The question is, would someone treating me as a young person have decided I was an introvert and possibly on the autism spectrum, or would they recognize the possible trauma I was experiencing? I’m not a medical expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I know for a fact that we miss the signs of childhood trauma often. I would not mind if we took a second look at some young people with a trauma-informed lens.

This is an issue that I suspect gets confusing for many people. Creating deepfake abuse imagery has become relatively easy to do, but in many places, it is illegal. The harm, though, is indirect. A child wasn’t being abused to create the images, but once they are in public, the child who is being portrayed in the picture is being harmed in other ways.
