Link – First responders can be haunted by close encounters with suffering and death
And it’s things like this that keep people from getting help when they need it.
“Jeff Dill, a former firefighter and the founder of the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance, said he saw a half dozen cases across the country last year where firefighters were fired after they were diagnosed with PTSD.”
Is it any wonder we’ve seen an increase in the suicide rates of first responders? They live through a whole ton of trauma but a normal and natural reaction to that trauma is seen as a weakness and a reason for them to be fired.
We need to do better.
