Sharing – Abuse Survivors and Our Bodies: Mistaking Correlation with Causation

The article below is an important one. Sexual abuse survivors for sure, and survivors of other types of abuse as well, mistakenly assume that there is something about us, and about our bodies, that led to the abuse. It’s not true.

“It is therefore very important that you know on a very visceral level that what you experienced is not your body’s fault, your body just happened to be involved.”

For sexual abuse survivors, this often also includes blaming our bodies for how they responded to stimuli as if it had the capacity to do anything else. As Azure says, it just happened to to be involved. It’s not at fault, any more than a survivor is at fault. They were just involved too, in someone else’s crime.

Please, go read the whole thing.
